A train crash in Songkhla Province left three people with serious injuries when a pickup truck collided with an express train at an unprotected railway crossing. The incident occurred on January 23, 2023, in Pa Ching Subdistrict, Chana District, raising safety concerns about railway crossings without barriers.

Details of the Train Collision The accident happened near the Ban Pa Ching railway crossing, a location with only a warning sign and flashing lights, but no safety barriers. Express train 37 from Bangkok Central Station Apiwat-Su-ngai Kolok collided with a Toyota Hilux 4-door pickup truck, throwing it into a ditch along the railway tracks.

Injuries and Emergency Response Three people in the pickup truck were seriously injured:

  • Mr. Yaya, 35: He suffered a laceration on his right eyebrow and abrasions.
  • Miss Pathumma, 33: She had abrasions all over her body and was in shock.

Emergency responders, including the Golden Chedi Rescue Unit, were quick to arrive on the scene. Despite the impact, the train's passengers and staff were unharmed.

Cause and Investigation CCTV footage showed that the pickup truck was crossing the railway tracks when the train struck it. The truck was traveling on the Asian Road, outbound from Chana District, when it turned left across the railway tracks. Authorities suggest that the driver might not have noticed the oncoming train, possibly due to being unfamiliar with the area.
